Sit On It
via asfurniture.com This is now in our house and it is so comfortable. It’s also much bigger than we imagined. We planned to rearrange our living room anyway, but really need to now.

Either this ladybug has been living in our bedroom for several months with no discernible source of food or new ones keep getting in.
In Defense Of George Lucas
We Need To Talk About George I’ve started writing this a couple of times, but the former debater in my head keeps trying to counter every possible argument against what I’m saying before I’ve even gotten my point out. I’ve kicked him out and barred the door so I can finally write this damn post. If anyone wants to debate my points, I’ll let him back in. What I’ve got to say, I’ve been saying...

Light at the End of the Day
And In The End
Screenplay: The Dark Knight Confession time. I have a horrible memory for the endings of stories. Take Lawrence of Arabia for example. I have seen it many times, it’s one of my all time favorite movies, but I cannot remember how it ends. So, with The Dark Knight Rises coming soon and details trickling out about it I wanted to revisit The Dark Knight as I could not recall specifically how...
Not A Resolution
I’m not calling it a resolution, but starting at the beginning of this year I am making a concerted effort to really get my screenwriting going. I had made a good go at it a few months back, but the time of day I set aside for writing became the time when we would change my wife’s bandages. I never found a different time of day and it all just trailed off. So, I’m beginning by...
For Luck
Ever since my wife’s first surgery (of three, collect them all), we have seen so many ladybugs. In our house, on our car, in our car, and so on. She says it’s a sign of good luck and I’m going with that idea. (I spotted this one while walking the dog this morning.)
Horror Movie Recommendations?
I’ve never really been a devotee of horror movies, but lately have been hungry for any good ones I can find. As I know some of you do have a passion for the genre, I’d like to solicit any recommendations you may have. I’m not a big fan of gore or, more specifically, the “torture porn” subgenre, but if it’s a well made or important film I can probably stomach...
back to business
Got back to the day job today. My wife had surgery a couple of weeks ago and I’ve been staying home to help her recuperate. I hoping to get back to some sort of regular schedule soon so I can start writing too. For now though, just taking it one day at a time.

olive oil secrets
Extra-virgin olive oil is a ubiquitous ingredient in Italian recipes, religious rituals and beauty products. But many of the bottles labeled “extra-virgin olive oil” on supermarket shelves have been adulterated and shouldn’t be classified as extra-virgin, says New Yorker contributor Tom Mueller. via npr.org Olive oil is one of the real staples of our cooking, so very...
my batman
Back in the early summer of 1989 I happened upon my first Batman comic, issue #602 of Detective Comics, in a small grocery store in Hutchinson, Kansas. As a result my Batman became and will always be the Grant/Breyfogle Batman. The dynamism of the artwork and the depth of the writing solidified the idea of Batman into a living breathing character. So reading that Norm Breyfogle will be returning...

The Five Best Things Dr Nemesis Says In X-Club #1...
Anyway, the book takes a bunch of X-Men scientists and gets them to do cool things. But none is quite as cool as Dr Nemesis. So I thought we should celebrate the character under Si Spurrier’s care, and highlight the five best things he said in the comic in question. via bleedingcool.com Haven’t been interested enough in any X-Men comics to read more than an issue or two in years (too...

Abuse Your Noodle
Heard an interesting report on NPR this morning about how instant ramen cups lead to a lot of horrible burns by tipping over easily, especially with children. The part I really wanted to note down for future writing reference was the reason ramen burns are so much worse than other soup or hot liquid burns. Apparently the noodles, which hold in the heat, stick to the skin, intensifying the burn....
Hello Future World
Back when I was single, maintaining a self hosted blog as my digital hub was easy. Now I have a life though and less time to fiddle with updates and plugins. So a new digital hub, hosted on posterous.com with bits being piped to anywhere I want and no worrying about the back end. If you want to see it directly, it’s at cloudmachine.us. As with the old setup though, anything I post should...

go read it
I haven’t seen Limitless yet and so haven’t read this myself, but my friend Damien wrote up his thoughts on that film, Why Limitless Is About Cyborgs And Magic. If you have seen the film you should go now and read what is surely a much more brilliant review/analysis than I could provide.

I’m as anti-Westboro Baptist as the next person (though not anti-their-right-to-be-a**holes) and have nothing against the city of Topeka, but there’s something I love about the “Topeka: City Of Bastards!” sign in this photo. Maybe it’s the typography. (Photo from sara with camera, via boingboing)

one of the best
I became a huge fan of The Dick Van Dyke Show a few years back and so always love to see that appreciation reflected elsewhere online, like in this article from The Onion A.V. Club (via Mark Evanier, who, without knowing it, is largely responsible for getting me to watch the show in the first place).
